🍗 Chick and Hawk Opens in Leucadia

After five years of planning, chef Andrew Bachelier and his wife Larah have finally opened Chick and Hawk in Leucadia, alongside their friend and business partner Tony Hawk. The new restaurant and bar combines Bachelier’s fine-dining roots from Addison, Campfire, and Jeune et Jolie with the laid-back coastal vibe of North County. The menu focuses on just a few great dishes, including the Birdman spicy fried chicken sandwich, named after Hawk, and the Seabird fish sandwich made with fresh local catch.
Inside, the space feels like a nostalgic nod to 1980s and ’90s Southern California, complete with neon colors, old skate videos looping on small TVs, and murals from artists like Shepard Fairey and Mark Gonzales. Guests can share duck-fat fries, enjoy shave ice desserts, and sip creative cocktails like the Japan Air, made with Japanese gin and pickled ginger. Chick and Hawk officially had their grand opening on Wednesday at 145 Leucadia Blvd. in Encinitas, serving lunch and dinner daily, with the bar staying open later on weekends.
🌧️ Pacific Storm Expected to Soak North County
A strong Pacific storm is moving toward Southern California and could bring an early end to fire season in San Diego County. Forecasters expect steady rain to arrive Friday and continue through Saturday, with coastal cities like Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Oceanside seeing around two inches of rainfall. Inland areas such as Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido could get closer to three or four inches.
The storm may also bring thunder and short bursts of heavy rain, especially on Friday night. The moisture will be welcome for our dry hills and open spaces, helping lower the wildfire risk heading into winter. Still, the National Weather Service is warning of possible flooding in low-lying areas and around recent burn scars. County crews have been clearing drains and setting out sandbags at local fire stations for anyone who needs them. A smaller storm could follow early next week, keeping things cooler and damp a little longer.
🏠💸 Property Tax Reminder for Homeowners
Another reminder that property tax bills for homes, condos, and land are due. Your first payment was due November 1 (late if not paid by December 10), and the second is due February 1 (late after April 10).

Until next time,
