🍽️ Carlsbad Restaurant Lilo Named One of the Most Beautiful New Restaurants in the Country

A little Carlsbad pride to start the weekend. Lilo, the intimate 24-seat restaurant that opened here last spring, was just named No. 4 on Robb Report’s list of the Most Beautiful New Restaurants in America for 2025. The list highlights standout new openings across major cities, making Lilo’s recognition especially meaningful for our local dining scene.

The restaurant earned its spot for both design and experience, offering a multi-course tasting menu inspired by the California coast in a calm, immersive setting. Even more impressive, Lilo received a Michelin star just 10 weeks after opening, a rare and fast achievement.

Chef Eric Bost and owner John Resnick are already familiar names in Carlsbad, also behind Jeune et Jolie and Campfire, both longtime local favorites. It’s another reminder that world-class dining is happening right here in North County.

🚆 Coastal Rail Service Paused on Two January Weekends

If you rely on the Coaster, Amtrak, or freight rail along the coast, heads up. All coastal rail service between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended for two weekends this month due to scheduled maintenance and infrastructure work. The closures happen this Saturday and Sunday, and again on January 24 and 25.

According to the North County Transit District, the downtime allows crews to safely tackle major projects, including work on the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5 and the Batiquitos Lagoon Double Track project here in Carlsbad, along with track maintenance near Leucadia Boulevard. No passenger or freight trains will run during these weekends, though construction vehicles and test trains will still be active along the tracks. More details and updates are posted at GoNCTD.com/Alerts.

🎟️ LA 2028 Olympics Ticket Registration Opens This Month

Even though the Games are still a few years out, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are officially inching closer. Ticket registration opens January 14, and this first step matters if you think you might want to attend anything once events roll around. Registration happens through la28.org and uses a lottery-style system, with purchase time slots assigned later. Southern California residents will get early access.

For North County folks, this is less about planning your whole Olympic schedule and more about getting your name in early. Tickets will be sold digitally through AXS, which is a far cry from the last time LA hosted in 1984, when people filled out paper forms, mailed checks, and waited months to hear back.

Until next time,
