What’s Happening?
After nearly five years in the making, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and chef Andrew Bachelier have officially opened Chick & Hawk in Encinitas. The restaurant blends nostalgic 1980s skate culture with a “fast fine dining” twist — serving up spicy fried chicken sandwiches, caviar, duck fat fries, and creative cocktails in a vibrant, neon-filled space.
Here’s what we know:
📍145 Leucadia Blvd, Encinitas, open 11/6 with grand opening this weekend.
🐔 The Birdman sandwich — crispy fried chicken, kimchi comeback sauce, and sweet-spicy pickles — is the star of the show.
🍟 Duck fat fries, fresh seafood, and even a caviar service keep things fancy-meets-fun.
🍹 Drinks get creative: try the electric-green Neon Bell cocktail (Taco Bell inspired) or Cheep Skate lager brewed with Viewpoint Brewing.
🎨 The space screams skate nostalgia with murals by Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales & Bunny Kitty, plus vintage TVs looping 80s skate videos.
🛹 The patio looks like a skate bowl (sorry, you can’t actually drop in).
