🎬 La Costa's 35-Year-Old Movie Theater Goes Dark

Cinépolis is closing its La Costa Paseo Real theater, the six-screen spot at 6941 El Camino Real near Dove Library, and its final screenings are this week. The company says the lease is up. It opened as Edwards in 1991 and was UltraStar until 2011, when Cinépolis took over and added recliners, seat-side food and a full bar.
Rewards points carry over, and staff are being offered spots at other locations. The eight-screen Cinépolis at La Costa Town Square on Via Mercato stays open, and so do the ones at Del Mar Highlands and in Vista. Learn more

📚 A Family Bookstore Moves Into the Old O'Sullivan's

The former O'Sullivan's Irish Pub in the Old World Center sat empty for six years. Since July it's been Carlsbad Village Books, a family-run shop that Laura and Tim Wrisley started as a tribute to their mothers, who both loved to read. The pub's brick walls, wood and nooks stayed, and the owners keep TVs out on purpose.
The shelves carry new and used books for kids, teens and adults, plus knitting supplies and board games, and Marla's Cafe inside pours coffee and tea. Learn more
