🎭 The Carlsbad Theatre Has New Owners

A group of local investors has bought the Carlsbad Theatre, the 1927 movie house in the Village that hasn't had anything playing since 2019 and sat for sale most of that time. The new owners, Carlsbad Theatre LLC, led by Kipp Gstettenbauer, want it back as a community gathering place, and early plans call for a restaurant and bar with live entertainment.

Next comes permits and finding a tenant to build out the space, and the owners say the final plan isn't settled yet. They plan to work with Carlsbad Community Theatre and the Boys & Girls Clubs' Village Clubhouse, and the city manager called the plan promising after the council voted in July to support saving the theater. 🚲 The Inland Rail Trail Now Runs 12 Car-Free Miles

A new 1.1-mile piece of the Inland Rail Trail opened in Vista on Sept. 26, from Mar Vista Drive to Civic Center Drive. You can now bike, walk or roll about 12 continuous miles, from the Escondido Transit Center through San Marcos to the Civic Center Sprinter station in Vista, without sharing the path with cars.

The paved path runs right alongside the Sprinter tracks, with lighting, drought-tolerant landscaping and a small pocket park and rest stop at Mar Vista Drive. It cost $27.9 million, and SANDAG's plan is a 21-mile trail that eventually reaches Oceanside. Learn more
