NÓMADA Is Worth Making a Reservation For

NÓMADA opened at 6996 El Camino Real in Carlsbad in January and has been filling up on weekends ever since. Chef Alex Carballo draws from coastal Sinaloa, Yucatán, Baja, and central Mexico, and it comes through in the raw bar, the wood-fired preparations, and tacos that hold up on their own. The 5,600-square-foot space has a patio with fire pits, a courtyard, a chef's counter looking into the kitchen, and a full bar anchored in agave. Friday and Saturday nights run late with live music and an extended oyster bar.

The menu covers a raw bar with daily oysters, ceviches, and crudo tostadas, plus whole roasted local fish and about eight taco options including a duck mole trio worth ordering. The bar goes past margaritas into pisco, cachaça, and regional liqueurs from across Latin America. Works as a long dinner or a quick stop at the bar on a weeknight. Make a reservation if you're going on a weekend.

Until next time,
