🏊 Monroe Street Pool Reopens Bigger After $21 Million Rebuild

City leaders cut the ribbon on the renovated Monroe Street Pool in Carlsbad

Carlsbad's Monroe Street Pool, next to the Carlsbad High football field, reopened Nov. 3 after a rebuild that began in March 2025. Voters approved up to $24 million for the 1982 pool in 2022, and the city came in under that at about $21 million.

The new pool has 50% more lanes, plus a bigger deck, new locker rooms and family restrooms, more shade and bleachers, outdoor showers and a larger parking lot. Swimmers can now skip the locker rooms through an outdoor entrance, and rooftop solar panels and a new solar water heater went in too. Learn more

🥭 Mia's Turns One in Solana Beach

Blackened ahi tuna with quinoa salad and radishes at Mia

Mia's, the Baja Mediterranean restaurant from the founders of Bluewater Grill, just celebrated its first year in Solana Beach. It's named for a rescue dog the Staunton family brought home from San José del Cabo. Chef Michael Padilla's menu includes blackened ahi over Mediterranean quinoa salad and hamachi crudo finished tableside with a mango fresno sauce.

Nearly every cocktail can be made zero-proof, juices are pressed daily, and the Carrot Passion Margarita comes with black sea salt. Off-menu desserts include a no-bake key lime cheesecake. Learn more
